Success At Tate Modern

So proud of three artists from Waltham Forest Disability Resource Centre exhibited at the Tate Modern. Funmi, Pedro and Aftab created 3 of the 15 winning artworks on view at the Tate Modern, at the One Planet One Chance Exhibition on 26th July 2023. Special congratulations to our incredibly talented Funmi for being awarded the top Judge's Choice prize. Organised by the amazing Uniting Friends in conjunction with Tate Modern, the exhibition gave a view of climate change through the eyes of disabled and older people.

A huge thank you to Leytonstone’s Filly Brook restaurant for hosting our Belonging art exhibition on Saturday 29th July. The exhibition showcased individual and group artworks produced by disabled artists at the Waltham Forest Disability Resource Centre, during a 10 week mixed media course. Funded by a LBWF Community Chest grant and taught by Lucy Tate of United Arts, the course created a space for people to explore the theme of “belonging” while learning new art techniques including print making, painting, photography and collage.

COMING SOON

An exciting new Art course funded by London Borough of Waltham Forest

Thanks to LBWF Community Chest funding, an exciting mixed media course will start at our Centre in May. Led by Lucy Tate of United Arts, the 10 weekly workshops on Friday mornings will explore the theme of “Belonging” through drawing, painting, print-making, photography and collage, as well as guided meditation and creative writing.

United Way donate £1500 towards WFDRC Community Choir Project

We were so thrilled and grateful when we learnt just before Christmas that United Way UK, in partnership with Costco, had given a £1500 grant to support out Community Choir project for disabled adults. Our fun, energetic Choir/Group Singing sessions meet twice a week on Tuesday and Friday afternoons, with over 60 people involved with all ability levels.

Cooking Fun at the Centre

The Centre was lucky enough to be awarded a £500 grant earlier this year, to run some cookery classes with a small group of service users. Taught by Josie, our cookery group learnt how to prepare - and then sat down to eat together - a delicious range of meals including Chinese Scallion Pancakes, Turkish flatbreads with spinach, mint and feta and Jerk Chicken and Curried Goat. They even made their own fresh pasta for Lasagne and Spinach and Ricotta Cannelloni. Some people who took part were complete novices, others wanted to become more confident about cooking a wider range of dishes from different cultures. Being able to cook more of our meals from scratch can be really helpful at a time when the cost of food has gone up so much.

The Magic Little Grant which funded this project comes from the partnership between Localgiving and Postcode Society Trust. Postcode Society Trust is a grant-giving charity funded by players of the People’s Postcode Lottery. Localgiving is the UK’s leading membership and support network for local charities and community groups.
